GAF Timberline HDZ shingles
Timberline HDZ is the everyday architectural shingle. UHDZ has a heavier look. Designer shingles, Liberty roll roofing, and Timberline Steel serve different roof shapes and styles.

Product Comparison
Start with the roof style you want, then compare the package markings and installation requirements behind each rating.
GAF does not publish a product-specific expected lifespan for these shingles. “Lifetime” describes the limited warranty term, not a guarantee of how many years the roof will last. Installation, ventilation, exposure, maintenance, and storm damage all affect service life.
HDZ is the everyday dimensional option. UHDZ adds a deeper shadow line and a higher package-qualified impact rating.
Everyday
A familiar architectural look with broad color choices.
Performance
A heavier-looking roof with stronger shadow lines.
These lines change the roof profile. The choice is mainly slate versus shake styling, tab shape, and how bold the pattern looks from the street.
Designer
A formal, slate-like roof with large dimensional tabs.
Designer
A wood-shake look with irregular, oversized tabs.
Designer
A slate-like look with strong horizontal shadow lines.
Designer
Large roof planes that can carry a bold shake-style pattern.
Impact ratings apply only to packages carrying the stated classification. UL 2218 is a laboratory impact test, not a hail-damage warranty. Wind coverage depends on the installed roof system and GAF warranty terms.
